Introducing a clever new way to safeguard your home from burglars that is inexpensive, easy to use, and even more effective than elaborate security systems.

Burglars are usually afraid to enter homes they think are occupied because they want easy targets, not an encounter with a potentially armed homeowner who could call 911 or shoot them. We invented a new product to deter potential burglars: a compact disc (CD) of sounds that makes approaching burglars think someone is home. We offer various CDs so homeowners can choose what is most appropriate for their home. Let's discuss one of our CDs and see what makes it so effective.

Burglar deterrent CD
PATENT PENDING

CD #1 contains construction sounds such as saws cutting wood, an air compressor, nailing, and so forth. To use this CD, simply play it in your CD player, selecting the “repeat” or “continuous play” mode so the CD plays repeatedly when you leave home. The sounds trick burglars into thinking that the home is currently inhabited, so most will not attempt entry. Therefore, this CD creates an important first line of defense that can be even more effective than security alarms (which don’t activate until an intruder enters the home).  Many burglars don’t fear alarms because they know they can grab valuables and be long gone before the police arrive.  Furthermore, entry or even attempted entry usually leaves the homeowner and insurer with property damage.  It's much better to deter burglars from attempting entry.

Playing music or a TV when you're gone is not a good way to protect your home because burglars are familiar with that old ruse. It will take years for this product to gain that degree of recognition. Even then, our CD sounds will still be much more effective. Why?

  • First, people (even burglars) intuitively know that loud sounds can camouflage other sounds. Thus, the CD sounds plausibly explain why the homeowner did not answer his doorbell or phone if the burglar is brazen enough to verify home occupancy in this manner.

  • Second, the sounds from our CDs will always be more effective than radio or TV sounds because burglars may assume the radio or TV was inadvertently left on. If someone hears construction sounds emanating from a house, he is not likely to attribute those sounds to some electronic device being inadvertently left on. The reflexive assumption will not just be that someone is home, but likely an adult male working on some renovation project (since children and women are statistically less apt to be involved in construction).

  • Third, if a burglar hears construction sounds, he may assume the resident is too busy to answer the doorbell or phone. Burglars would be much less likely to think the homeowner is too busy if he hears radio or TV sounds.

  • Fourth, even if our CD deterrent sounds eventually become well-known, a burglar who suspects that such a CD is being used could never know for sure if the sounds are real or recorded (believe me, they sound real). The only way to verify this would be to enter the home, which most burglars would rather not risk since there will always be easier targets with less uncertainty.

Our burglar deterrent CDs can also help protect your family even when the home is occupied. For example, let's say that you have a daughter who is alone in the home for a few hours after school. The chance that she would be attacked by someone ringing your doorbell is slim, but certainly not zero. If the visitor turned out to be a thug with malicious intent, he would likely cancel his plan the second he heard construction sounds emanating from somewhere in the home. Hence, if your daughter heard the doorbell ring, she could hit the "play" button on the CD player on her way to answer the door. You can also use this same technique if you are an adult. This is especially important for women and senior citizens because criminals may overpower them and force their way inside. That will likely not happen if burglar deterrent sounds are playing. The hoodlum knows that a scream is very apt to summon help from someone with a gun. Even if no one else is home and you don't own a gun, the criminal doesn't know that. Guns are so prevalent that criminals realize that assaulting someone at home can be a fatal mistake. Thus, criminals are always looking for easy targets.  Don't be one!
